to be socially invisible.

③ It has a universality of theme, not only regional dilemma of existence; ④ The style of the book changes deliberately with the change of the narrator’s environment: It begins with a language more or less naturalistic, moves to something expressionistic and ends with a surrealistic texture.

I am an invisible man… I am invisible, understand, simply because people refuse to see me. Like the bodiless head you see sometimes in circus sideshows, it is as though I have been surrounded by mirrors of hard, distorting glass. When they approach me they see only the surroundings, themselves, or figments of their imagination — indeed, everything and anything except me… You often doubt if you really exist… You ache with the need to convince yourself that you do exist in the real world.
