TENCENT is putting controls to limit the daily time for youngsters to play its popular King of Glory game after parents and schools in Shanghai and other areas complained their children had become addicted to playing it.

Kings, developed by Tencent, the leading mobile games developer in China, has become a hit since launching in 2015, and is now China’s most popular game, with 163 million monthly users. Of that figure, around a quarter 10.1 million are under 19. Gaming and internet addiction have long been hot topics. Parents are concerned about how addictive the game has become.

Tencent has set up an anti-addiction system that bans players who spend too much time in the game. The game system will remind players the time they have been playing and young players will be forced to log out when the time is up. The company also updates its system so that parents can monitor children playing its games. Parents can receive messages when children log in and spend money on the game after they connect children’s game accounts with their mobile phone numbers.

Addiction to internet games has a great effect on youngsters in many ways. First, youngsters lack self-control so they sometimes spend too much time on games, which results in their poor performance in school and bad health. Second, playing games is a waste of money and some youngsters even do something illegal to get money for playing games. What’s more, internet addiction may affect their mental health as well, such as withdrawing from society.

So it’s necessary to have control over youngsters’ playing internet games. Personally, our government should make laws to control game developers and youngsters.
