warmly and equipped with the video 42 we had been trying to watch. I was feeling a little exhausted 43 I was carrying our big shopping bags of snacks and the video.
They were so 44 that I decided to throw away some of them. So I started to walk towards the bin 45 I noticed a poor man stepping out of the restaurant in front of us. He held a paper bag with his dirty hands . He 46 over to another nearby bin and stared looking 47 it
I suddenly felt very upset. I know this man would take all he could get, so I walked up to him and 48 the drink and some snacks to him. The man, with lines on his face and wrinkles on his forehead, look up in 49 and took what I gave him.
A huge smile 50 across his face and this made me feel indescribable satisfaction. I felt like I couldn’t be happier with 51 , but then he said, “Wow, first someone gives me this sandwich, then this drink, and now some tasty food, this is my daughter’s 52 day’ He thanked me happily and started off on his bike. I even heard him whistling a song as he 53 away.
I now understand what is meant by the saying “giving is getting”. Everyone in the world needs help, everyone can 54 help and everyone will be helped by something kind.

Most students have biology classes in the classrooms or the labs in China. But several days ago,I had a biology class outside in my American schoo1.
My biology teacher,Mr. Kwak, divided us into three groups and asked us to play a game about natural selection(选择)and how birds find food.
He gave the first group one spoon per person, the second group forks and my group knives.I thought we were going hunting,so knives might work better.Surprisingly,he told us to pick up the beans on the grass with our tools.
When the game started all of us ran to the grass area.We squatted(蹲)down and looked for beans. It was hard to pick up something that small, especially from the grass .
When I almost fired a bean,it dropped back to the ground. When I finally picked up several beans, one of my friends ran into me.I couldn’t keep my balance and fell over. All my beans dropped to the ground! Just at that moment,Mr.Kwak called us back.I had to leave the game and of course I got a bad result.I couldn’t help thinking that if I were a bird living on Galapagos Island,I would be dead soon.
The fun game made me realize that natural selection is really competitive(竞争的).Everyone is trying his or her best to—survive.

When I got the driving license last summer, Mom and I took our first trip around an empty parking lot. Then I found that my mother was not the best teacher for me. It wasn't that she shouted, or told me that I was doing poorly. As you can imagine, my mother's \make me more nervous.w
Since I could no longer practice with her, the job was placed in the hands of my father. The idea of learning from Dad was not one that thrilled me. I loved him dearly, but I just did not see Dad as someone I could be comfortable learning from. He almost never talked. We shared a typical father-daughter relationship. He'd ask how school was, and I'd say it was fine. Unfortunately, that was the most of our conversations. Spending hours alone with someone who might as well have been a stranger really scared me.
As we got into the car that first time, I was not surprised at what happened. Dad and I drove around, saying almost nothing, aside from a few instructions on how to turn. As my lessons went on, however, things began to change. Dad would turn the radio up so I could fully appreciate his favorite Stones music. And he actually began talking. I was soon hearing about past failed dates, \body\gym class, and other tales from his past, including some of his first meeting with Mom.
Dad’s sudden chattiness was shocking until I thought about why he was telling me so much in the car. In all the years that I had wondered why my father never spoke that much, I had never stopped to consider that it was because I had never bothered to listen. Homework, friends, and even TV had all called me away from him, and, consequently, I never thought my quiet father had anything to say.
Since I began driving with him, my driving skill has greatly increased. More important, though, is that my knowledge of who my father is has also increased. Just living with him wasn't enough— it took driving with him for me to get to know someone who was a mystery.
