Warm-up Try to memorize the main idea of John’s and Nancy’s articles according to the table. Who? John Nancy Where? (Woodland School, (Rocky Mountain near London) High Denver) What? (Home Economics) (Reading Week) (Softball.) (The club’) When? (Every year) School, ‘buddy (Twice a week.) (Every Monday) Why? (Because he likes (Because she learning to cook loves the game.) and sew.) (Because she (Because he can enjoys it a lot.) read anything he likes.) Step II. Language points 1. Year8 (the Eighth Year) = Grade 8 (the Eighth Grade) 2. mixed adj. a mixed school mix v. Oil and water will not mix. Step 2 Teach some new words and phrases: 1. health healthy healthily unhealthy healthy—healthier—healthiest 2. taste—tasty 3. as well/too also 4. hero (n) heroes 5. spends + 时间/金钱 + on sth/(in) doing sth It takes + sb + 时间 + to do Sth costs sb + 金钱/精力 pay for; pay off 6. practice=practise: v. practice/practise doing 7. tell sb to do sth ask sb to do sth tell / ask sb not to do sth 8. 特殊疑问词+ to do I want to know what to do, when to do it and how to do it. I don’t know which one to buy. 9. It’s great because it’s faster than taking the bus. a. than 是介词,后加名词、代词、动名词 b. than是连词, taking the bus 后省略了is。 Playing football is more interesting than having lessons (is). 4. as well, also, too, either, as well as a. as well 副词短语,多用于口语,只用于句末. He is a teacher and a writer as well. b. also 较正式,不用于句末,用语肯定句中. He also plays football. c. too 多用语口语,通常在句末,也可在句中. He is a worker, too. d. either 用于否定句中,通常在句末. Yesterday I didn’t watch TV and I didn’t see the film, either.
