I also wrote my own poem first. I become really ecited when writing the poem.

Two years later, I started writing poetry, as a hobby and for fun. To learn how good or bad my poems were, I handed them in to some magaines and contests. I won second place in the North Carolina Poetry Society’s Sherry Pruitt Award Contest with a poem called The Ocean, and had my two poems published as high merit (优等) poems. I have continued to write poetry, and have even self-published three collections of poetry in both print and e-boo formats, which can be found at my store on Lulu.

Now, I love writing poetry, but I don’t hate writing short stories. I just find it more difficult and not my style of writing, even though I still write short stories occasionally. 56. The following are four boos that will help you change your mind and change your life.

1) You Can Heal Your Life, Louise Hay:A groundbreaing boo when it was released in 1982.It is still the boo that I turn to when I have physical unrest that requires deeper understanding.Louise Hay is the pioneer in looing at the connection between the physical unrest that we have in our body and the emotional connection. At the time that she wrote the boo many people scoffed at this idea, but it is now widely accepted and millions of people refer to it on a daily basis.

It is a plain fact that we are in a world where competition is going on in all areas and at all levels. This is eciting.Yet,on the other hand, competition breees a pragmatic(讲究实际的) attitude.People choose to learn things that are useful, and do things that are profitable.Today’s college education is also affected by this general sense of utilitarianism (功利主义).

Many colleges students choose Business,Law not Computer Programming as their majors convinced that these professions are where the big money is.It is not unusual to see the college students taing a part—time job as a warm—up for the real battle.I often see my friends taing GRE tests, woring on English or computer certificates and taing the driving tests to get a license.Well,I have nothing against being practical. As the competition in the job maret gets more and more severe, students do have reasons to be practical.

However,we should never forget that college education is much more than sill training.Just imagine,if your utilitarianism becomes the main trend on campus, leaving no space for the cultivation(培养) of students’ minds,or development of their soul.We will see university is training out well—trained spiritless woring machines. If utilitarianism controls society,we will see people lost in the money—maing

adventures;we will see humanity losing their grace and dignity, and that, would be disastrous.I’d lie to thin society as encouraging and people regard profit or fame only as a horse that pulls the courage.Yet without the driver picing direction, the courage would go straight and may even end out in a dangerous situation.

A certificate may give you some advantages, but not broad horions, positive attitudes and personal integrity(诚实正直),which are the wealth you cannot acquire through any quic fied way. Although in today’s world, the highest level of competition may not be that of sills or epertise(专门技能),but vision and strategy, your intellectual quality largely determines how far you can go in your career. 63. The author’s attitude toward today’s college education is________. A. positive B. cautious C. critical D. doubtful 64.Many college students choose to major in Business because _____. A.a businessman is very liely to mae big money.

B.studying business is less competitive.

C.too many students have chosen Computer Programming. D.Computer Programming is not a must for them. 65.The author does strongly suggest that . A.more competition be encouraged on college campus.

B.people not ignore the value of broad horions, positive attitudes and personal integrity. C.intellectual quality determine how far one can go in his career. D.college students get as many part—time jobs as possible. 66.In the author’s opinion, ____.

A.college students are not pragmatic enough

B.college students should have drivers pic direction for them

C.college education should provide students with more business courses D.college education should value the cultivation of students’ minds

D

Faces that activate the same regions of the brain again and again are more liely to be remtembered. Practice maes perfect when it comes to remembering things, but eactly how that wors has long been a mystery. A study published in Science recently indicates that reactivating neural(神经的) patterns over and over again my store items into the memory.

People find it easier to recall things if material is presented repeatedly at well-spaced intervals rather than all at once. For eample, you’re more liely to remember a face that your’ve seen on some occasions over a few days than one that you’ve seen once in one long period. One reason that a face lined to many different contets –such as school, wor and home- is easier to recognie than one that is associated with just one setting, such as a party, could be that there are some ways to access the memory. This idea, called the encoding variability hypothesis(假说),was proposed by psychologists about 40 years ago.

Each different contet or setting activates a clear set of brain regions; the hypothesis suggests that it is these differing neural responses that improve the memory. But neuroimaging(神经影像)research led by Russell Poldrac, a scientist at the University of Teas. Austin, now suggests that the opposite is true—items are better remembered when they activate the same neural patterns with each eposure.

Poldrac’s team measured brain activity in 24 people using functional magnetic resonance(磁共

振)imaging. The subjects saw 120 unfamiliar faces, and each one repeated four times at varying intervals during the scan. One hour later, they were shown the faces again, mied with 120 new ones, and ased to rate the familiarity of each.

The researchers then looed at the brain responses that had been recorded when the subjects wee first shown the faces, focusing on 20 brain regions associated with visual perception and memory. Face that were later recognied evoed similar activation patterns at each repetition in nine of the regions, particularly those associated with object and face perception; faces that were later forgotten did not produce such pattern to the same etent in people’s mind 67. The passage is mainly about ______. A. how the brain wors B. why some memories fade away C. the encoding variability hypothesis D. the neuroimaging research

68. Which of the following things can be most easily remembered according to Russell Poldrac? A. Something that activates the same regions of the brain again and again.

B. Something that is lined to only one setting.

C. Something that activates different neutral responses. D. Something that you have seen once for a long time.

69. The underlined word evoed in the last paragraph probably means ______. A. made B. caused C. responded D. mied 70. Where can we most probably find the passage?

A. in a traveling handboo. B. In a geography boo. C. In a newspaper. D. In an advertisement. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
